Recently I read this article from Yoga Journal, which explain this very well, hope you will find it is helpful to you.

".....
Many people in the modern world, including many who practice yoga, live stressful lives and walk around most of the time in a state of sympathetic dominance. By that I mean that the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), associated with the "fight or flight" response, is more activated that the parasympathetic nervous system, the branch of the ANS associated with rest and relaxation.

Since stress hormones are stimulating, these people may not notice how tired they really are until they get into a situation in which they start to relax. Yogic breathing—such as gentle Ujjayi Pranayama (Victorious Breath)—or practices that lengthen the exhalation relative to the inhalation can pretty quickly lead to parasympathetic dominance, and that's probably why the yawning occurs. And, although we don't know why, yawning also seems to be contagious—once one student starts, it may spread like wildfire. As with students who fall asleep in Savasana (Corpse Pose), yawning may signal a sleep deficit that your students would be wise to address before health problems result " - by Dr. Timothy McCallUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5340706260695492636.post-21593915043257141622010-10-17T23:26:00.001-07:002010-10-17T23:28:24.675-07:00Sri Sri Yoga in Bukit Mertajam (English Class)
please click on the pic to enlarge

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5340706260695492636.post-22966955375025474652010-07-31T19:55:00.000-07:002010-07-31T20:16:11.349-07:00Happening Event in Town!!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The most Happening Event in Penang.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Recently, people around me are doing this program where General Motors had designed for their employees. I did come across this program 2 years back but I was not paying attention on it, because it stated reduce 5kgs in 7 days. I thought this is CRAZY.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">So the first group of people completed their program 2 weeks ago and the result is amazing. They managed to reduce their weight between 4.5kgs to 3kgs. Which is very encouraging. The 2nd group started the same program 4 days ago, positive results reported 2kg - 2.5kgs lost on the 3rd day. Especially Chinese New Year(CNY) is just around the corner, everyone sure would like to reduce some weights.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">This program is designed for a target weight loss of 10-17 lbs per week. It will also improve your attitudes and emotions because of its cleansing systematic effects.

Not only does it prevent slipping on your yoga mat, it stabilizes your practice, it puts a hygienic layer between you and the yoga mat purposes (I mind lying down on other people’s dried sweat), easy to care for, is quick drying, is perfect for the traveling fitness enthusiast and most important it gives you the feeling of comfortable. I have been using one from x-brand for 3 years now, it has became my best companion during my every yoga practice.

I know many yogis admire this mat towel but was “scared away” by the price. Yes, good things don’t come free, or even cheap for that matter. This is not the normal towel, it is a super-absorbent towel (ultra fine micro-fiber fabric with special knitted technology makes this towel more skin-smooth for yogis) and with rubber beads on one. I found a source to get this yoga mat towel at a cheaper price. Why it is cheaper? Because it is NO BRAND. I sell it at RM100 each (exclude the shipping cost). If you happened to be in Penang, we may arrange a time for you to collect it from Yoga Home Studio. You may contact us at email address: yogahome2007@gmail.com

Check out the photos and feel free to contact me if you would like to own one.
The liver makes bile, and the gallbladder stores it. When we eat, the gallbladder is stimulated to release bile so that we can digest food properly.

When our bodies are inundated with toxins and saturated fats, our liver can become overloaded. We cannot make enough bile quickly enough to rush to the blood stream and flush these toxins away. Our gallbladder can become seriously inflamed, which causes pain and even fever, vomiting, and nausea.

When cholesterol in our bodies meets bile, it can result in gallstones. Make no mistake - this can be life threatening. So it's crucial to maintain the health of the liver and the gallbladder.

Liver Detox

1/2 cup warm water
2 tbsp organic lemon juice
1 tbsp organic molasses
1tsp organic olive oil
1 pinch cayenne pepper

Drink this mixture first thing in the morning for 10 days continously.
It would be beneficial to our detox if we ate more fresh fruits and vegetables and less meat.

--------------------------
Gallbladder Detox

Day 1 – Day 5
Morning, Noon, Evening and before go to bed drinks 250 ml of Green Apple juice or 2 Green Apple. Maintain your diet simple (less salt, less oil, less meat and less sugar). The purpose of drinking/eating the Green Apple is to soften the gallstones and make it easier to be removed. Drink 3 liters of water everyday

Day 6
• Fasting in morning and stop taking the Green Apple. Not to drink too much of water as it will make your stomach not comfortable.
• 6pm – mix 250ml of water with Epson Salt (10gram) , drink it.
• 8pm – again mix 250ml of water with Epson Salt (10gram) , drink it.
• 10pm – mix 125ml fresh lemon juice with 125ml Olive oil, drink it.
• After taking the lemon juice+olive oil, keep your stomach warm by hugging the hot pillow, lie down and turn to the right. This will help to increase the cord of the gallbladder, make it easier to pass out the gallstone.
• Lemon juice helps to soften the cord and olive oil help to produce more bile, flush the gallstones from gallbladder out from body.
Day 7Go to toilet in the morning, you will see gallstones start to pass out from your body. Gallstones floating, they are green and shape in stone.

Notes:
• After pass out the gallstones, you will have good appetite but not to eat too much/full as it is harmful to your gastric.
• Epsom salt is very powerful and cheap, do not take too much. You may also reduce the amount into half (if applicable).
• Even you have the operation to remove the gallstones perviously, you may also try this remedy.
• This is only applicable to gallstone at gallbadder (not kidney or others).
• If you found your pass motion only water but no gallstones, does the water in green? If yes, that is the gallstones as it has been soften into water (remember the Green Apple helps to soften the gallstone).Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5340706260695492636.post-82701177506476242772008-05-21T22:24:00.000-07:002010-01-31T22:04:29.799-08:00Yoga Breathing?Yoga breathing, or Pranayama, is the science of breath control. It consists of series of exercises especially intended to meet the body's needs and keep it in vibrant health. Pranayama comes from the following words:

* Prana - "life force" or "life energy"
* Yama - "discipline" or "control"
* Ayama - "expansion", "non-restraint", or "extension"

Thus, Pranayama means "breathing techniques" or "breath control". Ideally, this practice of opening up the inner life force is not merely to take healthy deep breaths. It is intended for yoga practitioners to help and prepare them in their Meditation process.

In our respiration process, we breathe in or inhale oxygen into our body, going through our body systems in a form of energy to charge our different body parts. Then we exhale carbon dioxide and take away all toxic wastes from our body. Through the practice of Pranayama, the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide is attained. Absorbing prana through breath control links our body, mind, and spirit.

But life is full of stress. Because of the daily work, family, or financial pressures, we tend to ignore our breathing. Thus, it tends to be fast and shallow. The use of only a fraction of your lungs results to lack of oxygen and may lead to different complications. Heart diseases, sleep disorders, and fatigue are some of the effects of oxygen starvation. Therefore, the negative energy of being restless and troublesome leads to lesser prana inside the body. By practicing deep and systematic breathing through Pranayama, we reenergize our body.

Benefits of Pranayama
Breathing is a normal part of our life, though we fail to pay attention to it. It is an autonomic function of the body that we perform even without concentrating on it. Why then do we have to learn yoga breathing? Here are some reasons why Pranayama is important:

Pranayama teaches us the proper way to breathe. We became used to breathing from our chest, using only a fraction of the lungs, not knowing that this unhealthy and unnatural way of inhaling may lead to several complications. With yoga breathing, we increase the capacity of our lungs, bringing more oxygen supply to the body to function well. We learn how to breathe slowly and deeply - the right way.

Pranayama reduces the toxins and body wastes from within our body. It prevents one from acquiring diseases.

Pranayama helps in one's digestion. With the proper way of breathing, one's metabolism and health condition will start to improve.

Pranayama develops our concentration and focus. It fights away stress and relaxes the body. Controlling one's breathing also results to serenity and peace of mind.

Pranayama offers a better self-control. Through concentration, one can better handle temper and reactions. Mind can function clearly, avoiding arguments and wrong decisions. Moreover, self-control also involves control over one's physical body.

Pranayama leads to spiritual journey through a relaxed body and mind.

However, Pranayama should not be forced and done without proper preparation, or it may lead to nervous breakdowns. It is part of a process in yoga. Breath control is a spiritual practice of cleansing the mind and body which should be done appropriately and with proper guidance and preparation.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5340706260695492636.post-12252506145334203122007-06-02T20:09:00.000-07:002010-01-31T22:07:00.364-08:00Yoga Diet
Yoga Diet - The Three Gunas

The Yoga Diet is one the Five Principles of Yoga. You will soon notice that eating properly will aid your health and make you feel fit and cleaner. The Yoga Diet is a perfect complement to Yoga Exercise. Even if you do not want to become a vegetarian, following these basic Yoga Diet rules as it will make you feel so much better.

In the unmanifested universe, energy has three qualities, known as

1. 2. Sattva (purity); Rajas (activity, passion, the process of change)
3. Tamas (darkness, inertia).

Once energy takes form, one quality of the three predominates. Are they joining the right class? As we can see, Yoga class is being offered in gym studio, first impression for Yoga is exercise. Do you know back in Ancient time, sage practice Yoga from dawn to night, Yoga is part of their daily life, they eat, walk, sleep with Yoga.

Nowadays, Yoga is a happening thing to do, it is the hottest topic in town. If you don't know or do not practice Yoga, you are "out-dated". Do all these people really practice or experience the real Yoga?

I have student come to my class and after the class, student told me that he/she does not enjoy the class because he/she does not sweat in the class. Come on, what does sweat need to do with Yoga? If you want to sweat, why don't you go jogging, hiking, cycling and etc ....

One does not need to know what is Yoga before he/she join a Yoga class, but you need to bring your heart along with you attend a Yoga class, you need to experience it with your heart, you need to feel it. Yoga practice is an experiential learning, different people will have different experience because each of us is unique in this Universal.

So next time, don't ask why you do not sweat in Yoga class but rather ask what have you felt during the class.
It is a series of very simple and easy steps, yet the effect is great. Below is an article I search via google, it gave me a good insight on what is Sukshma Vyayama.

Sukshma Vyayama is an ancient component of yoga not known to most of the schools of yoga today in the world. This was developed, designed and propagated originally by his His Holiness Maharishi Karthikeyaji Maharaj of the <place st="on">Himalaya</place>. He had great kindness and compassion for humanity and taught Swami Dhirendra Brahmachari, who in turn propagated it to the modern world, including the Nehru family. Dhirendra Brahmachari also produced books and established institutions in <city st="on"><place st="on">Delhi</place></city> and travelled throughout the country to teach a large number of people. Shri Surya Raghava Dikshitulu of Secunderabad learnt from Shri Dhirendrandra Brahmachari in the 1950s and I had the great fortune of learning from Yogasana Acharya Shri Surya Raghava Dikshitulu from in 1964 onwards.

Yogic Sukshma Vyayamaawas developed by Maharishi Kartikeya Ji Maharaj on the basis of some of the most essential but normally not understood, mysterious aspects of Hatha Yoga relating to the Mudras and Bandhas. Though the Hatha Yoga literature is filled with references to the profound importance attached to the Bandhas and Mudras, many of the modern yoga schools both in <country-region st="on"><place st="on">India</place></country-region> and abroad have comfortably ignored this aspect perhaps due to their own ignorance of this subject. It is also true that the Bandhas and Mudras are very complex can be practiced by advanced yogis in the original form as prescribed in the yogic texts namely HathayogaPradeepika, Siva Samhita and so on.

The science of yoga itself was restricted to the yogis who have renounced the world and who have given up all attachments and gone into the forest or the <place st="on">Himalaya</place>. Yoga was taught and practiced only for them, by them and amongst them. But in the recent times some of the smaller, simpler and easier components of the yoga system were brought out from the mystery and secrecy that shrouded them, for the benefit of the modern society by Shri Dhirendra Brahmachari and various other yoga experts. So, in conformity with the approach of bringing to the common people and normal society, some of the simplified and easier aspects of Hatha Yoga, this system of Sukshma Vyayamaa was developed, designed and propagated by His Holiness Maharishi Karthikeyaji Maharaj.

As mentioned earlier Yogic Sukshma Vyayamaa is a unique system of exercises not available anywhere in the world, in any other form either in the yogic domain or in the non-yogic, physical or cultural domain. It is so sensitive, so powerful, so scientific so deep and yet so simple that even a child after crossing the age of ten can easily practice it and derive benefit. The benefits claimed are very great and there are also experiences collaborated by lakhs of disciples of Shri Dhirendra Brahmachari, my own teacher Sri Dikshtulu and my many of my students. The benefits of Yogic Sukshma Vyayamaa are so great that even without practicing the rest of the aspects of Hatha Yoga such as Asanas it is possible to derive extremely tangible benefits in a very quick manner.

The other beautiful and more important aspect of Yogic Sukshma Vyayamaa is, that it is the only system of exercises in the world where each and every part of the body including Each organ, each joint and each muscle is taken into consideration, and a particular exercise or set of excercises associated with a specific type of breathing in a specific type of position with a specific point of mental concentration is prescribed.

So, starting with the top that is the head, we cover:

various parts of the brain, the eyes, nose, ears, and neck, the shoulders, arms and arm joints, finger joints and even fingertips the upper chest , middle chest and abdomen and trunk in different aspects the thighs and buttocks, even organs like rectum/anus and the bladder (for which excercises are very rarely prescribed) the knees, ankles, foot, foot muscle and joints, toes and finally the big toe.

So, literally "from top to toe" is the coverage in the above mentioned sequence which is something very unique in the entire world, in the past, present and possibly the future too.

So the Yogic Sukshma Vyayamaa as is implied by the name, is meant for the subtle body or Sukshma Sarira. It is not meant for the gross body or Sthula Sarira. There is a separate set of exercises for the gross body - Sthula Vyayamaa which succeeds Sukshma Vyayamaa but it is just about half a dozen exercises of gross nature similiar to other gross exercises such as swimming and running or various physical and cultural excercises. Yogic Sukshma Vyayamaa, however, is on a different footing. It is meant for the subtle body of the human being, as per Indian traditional philosophy. As per the yogic philosophical tradition there are five bodies for every individual - the physical and the subtle: the annamaya sarira, pranamaya sareera, manomaya sareera, vigyanamaya sareera and anandamaya sareera. So, Sukshma Vyayamaa deals with the second level, that is the subtle body or the pranamaya sareera.

The main features or components of Sukshma Vyayamaa are (1) breathing (2) concentration point (3) actual exercise - which involves motion most of the times though not always. Breathing of different types: very light or very fast or very deep, sometimes through the mouth although mostly through the nose. This is a brief about Sukshma Vyayamaa.

The benefits once again are immense and are direct and immediate. Within a month of regular practice,

preferably twice a day, morning and evening, or once a day in the morning,

before bath if warm water, or after bath if cold water,

before any kind of food,

with a tight underwear and shorts,

on a mattress,

either open air or indoors,

without any cold or heat or rain,

will lead to development of extraordinary levels of capabilities and faculties of various aspects of the personalities both mental and physical.

For those who have maladies and problems of different kind, Sukshma Vyayamaa alone is capable of curing and preventing without taking the help of asanas or other aspects of pranayama or kriyas. Though we do not prohibit the other aspects, Sukshma Vyayamaa is solely capable of handling all problems, both curing and preventing, and increasing the strength and vigour of different organs and systems in the body.

Sukshma Vyayama, though it looks very simplistic, is also going to awaken the Kundalini if performed correctly for a long period of time on a regular basis. The other aspects of classical Hatha Yoga which have been incorporated into package of Sukshma Vyayama, by his Holiness Maharishi Kartikeyaji are the Sambhavi Mudra, Shanmukhi Mudra and also Tratak. The eye exercises are from Tratak, and the ear exercise is Shanmukhi Mudra which was used in the classical yoga to get into the trance state of deep meditation though in Sukshma Vyayama it is only used for calming and quietening the mind for a common man.

So, to conclude, the mudras and bandhas are utilized along with the modern motion of exercises, movement of the muscles and bones to the extent of each and every joint of the body, each and every bone and the muscle and organ, being given an exercise to improve its' vigour, to improve its' capabilities, faculties and the performance of the individual as a whole.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5340706260695492636.post-77213263445509368342007-01-14T16:59:00.000-08:002010-01-31T22:10:44.276-08:00LOHAS 樂活Received this from a friend and I would like to share it with you ...
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5340706260695492636.post-32240978140080551852006-12-23T22:08:00.000-08:002010-01-31T22:09:18.171-08:00Benefits of Yoga
Top 10 reasons to try "Yoga for Life" from the Yoga Alliance

1. YOGA FOR ? STRESS RELIEF: Yoga reduces the physical effects of stress on the body. Related benefits include lowering blood pressure and heart rate, improving digestion and boosting the immune system as well as easing symptoms of conditions such as anxiety, depression, fatigue, asthma and insomnia.

2. YOGA FOR ? PAIN RELIEF: Yoga can ease pain. Studies have demonstrated that practicing yoga asanas (postures), meditation or a combination of the two, reduced pain for people with conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, auto-immune diseases and hypertension as well as arthritis, back and neck pain and other chronic conditions. Some practitioners report that even emotional pain can be eased through the practice of yoga.

3. YOGA FOR ? BETTER BREATHING: Yoga teaches people to take slower, deeper breaths. This helps to improve lung function, trigger the body’s relaxation response and increase the amount of oxygen available to the body.

4. YOGA FOR ? FLEXIBILITY: Yoga helps to improve flexibility and mobility, increasing range of movement and reducing aches and pains. Many people can’t touch their toes during their first yoga class. Gradually they begin to use the correct muscles. Over time, the ligaments, tendons and muscles lengthen, increasing elasticity, making more poses possible. Yoga also helps to improve body alignment resulting in better posture and helping to relieve back, neck, joint and muscle problems.

5. YOGA FOR ? INCREASED STRENGTH: Yoga asanas (postures) use every muscle in the body, helping to increase strength literally from head to toe. And, while these postures strengthen the body, they also provide an additional benefit of helping to relieve muscular tension.

6. YOGA FOR ? WEIGHT MANAGEMENT: Yoga (even less vigorous styles) can aid weight control efforts by reducing the cortisol levels as well as by burning excess calories and reducing stress. Yoga also encourages healthy eating habits and provides a heightened sense of well being and self esteem.

Yoga combines spiritual traditions, physical movements, and a philosophy of life that leads to enlightenment. Yoga deepens our spirituality, and matures our attitudes and intentions toward life by integrating body, mind, and spirit.

The word "Yoga" comes from the Sanskrit "yuj", meaning "union" or "yoke". Therefore, the practice of yoga seeks to create unity between the mind, body, and spirit of a person. We'll become less fragmented inwardly and become more comfortable in our own skin, developing greater self-confidence, inner strength, and a profound peace that overflows from our yoga mat to the everyday details of our life.

Whether you want to lose weight and get fit, reduce stress and cope with life better, or explore your own spiritual path, yoga offers a way to cultivate personal awareness with more than physical relaxation. It is a pathway to a greater understanding of the question "Who am I?"

Comfortable clothing and a quiet place to practice are ideal. Yoga can be practiced anywhere at any time of the day or night. A morning practice is beneficial to prepare you for a new day filled with energy and focus. On the other hand, a practice in the evening helps to bring closure of the day.
